Es stellt sich heraus, dass dieser Code

ndk { 
    moduleName "hello-android-jni" 
    } 

sollte unter "DefaultConfig" Block platziert werden:

defaultConfig { 
    applicationId "com.chenql.helloandroidjni" 
    minSdkVersion 22 
    targetSdkVersion 23 
    versionCode 1 
    versionName "1.0" 
    testInstrumentationRunner "android.support.test.runner.AndroidJUnitRunner" 

    ndk { 
     moduleName "hello-android-jni" 
    } 
} 

instaed von nach "buildTypes" -Block .
